Gardening We keep wanting to

We keep wanting to pull out our volunteer tomato plants but it’s hard to do so when they just keep on producing
.
In the foreground is a violet jasper tomato but the volunteer vines are continuing to produce in the background. We are harvesting the yellow tomatoes and feeding them to the chooks. Way too many for us πŸ˜‚

Have you tried used COFFEE GROUNDS as a fertiliser for your chlorophyll loving leafy green veggies?
.
Used COFFEE GROUNDS have s PH reading close to neutral and are a fantastic nitrogen fertiliser containing very good amounts of phosphorus and potassium in them
.
Used COFFEE GROUNDS are also useful as a ‘green’ component in a compost heap and people often use them as mulch and a super soil conditioner
.
Used COFFEE GROUNDS however should not be thrown in the soil directly without being detoxified and the best way to do this is through aged composting. Coffee grounds contain elements like tannins, caffeine and particular acids that are somewhat toxic to plants
.
The benefits of used COFFEE GROUNDS are that it improves poor soil structure by adding rich organic matter assisting microorganisms and worms who thrive in them. The structure of the coffee grounds allows water retention to be good while draining excess water away and keeping the soil well aerated. These are key attributes in any good quality soil mix
.
It’s best to use coffee grounds when fully composted and for when preparing garden beds for an upcoming growing season and you need to prep the soil with other additives like lime etc..
.
Some like to add coffee grounds directly to the soil but the nitrogen effect may not be fast-acting and of course care needs to be taken because of the chemicals found in coffee that are toxic to plants
.
Try and avoid fresh/unwashed coffee grounds because they tend to be acidic in nature unless of course you’d like to use them in acid loving plant species
