Nice LEMONS coming through on our other younger lemon tree
.
This lemon tree is a hybrid variety grown over family generations. It produces smaller lemons than our Lisbon variety but these lemons contain more juice and a thinner peel

WEEDS - We like to handpick our weeds but did you know that a diluted combination of vinegar, soap and salt can be mixed to create a more homemade means of killing weeds?
.
However, they do come with dangerous side effects and therefore great care and an understanding of how these ingredients work is recommended:
.
VINEGAR - effective at killing some types of weed varieties with a higher concentration of acetic acid but probably not enough to penetrate roots for other more stubborn perennial weeds often with repeat applications required. Mixing the solution with dishwashing soap helps the vinegar stick better to the foliage
.
Vinegar draws moisture out of the plant however care needs to be taken when vinegar makes contact with soil. Vinegar makes the soil more acidic but if you are using standard household vinegar, the amount of acetic acid is relatively low in terms of a lasting change in a soil’s PH level - the soil will revert to its normal PH level as soon as the vinegar wears off
.
However, vinegar with acetic concentrations of more than 20% will tend to acidify the soil for a much longer period of time
.
SALT - will kill weeds (and plants). Salt absorbs water dehydrating the roots and interrupting the biological process of osmosis. The dissolved sodium and chloride in the soil will prevent the uptake of the key nutrients potassium and phosphorus. Instead, chloride will be absorbed into the plant reducing chlorophyll production thus preventing photosynthesis
.
Unfortunately however, sodium does not break down easily and can remain in the soil for years making the use of salt dangerous in the home garden because it can come into contact with good plants and in the more severe cases render the surrounding soil inhospitable for future planting
