Gardening Today’s Melbourne’s temperature of

Today’s Melbourne’s temperature of well over 40 degrees Celsius has put most of our vegetable plants in self-preservation and survival mode
.
Unfortunately, most vegetable plants like this KENT PUMPKIN vine cannot handle the heat by conserving water in their leaves as do succulents
.
Any sign of wilting is a red alert that severe water loss has occurred through the plants transpiration mechanism
.
Irrespective if you watered the day before, a day over 40 degrees Celsius requires a deep drenching around the base of the plant preferably at the end of the day so the water moisture remains overnight and does not evaporate during the day
.
Failure to water after a scorching day can have detrimental effects on the health and productivity of the plant. The plant could dry out very quickly and with the flow of water to the plant tissues disturbed, the plant will drop its blossoms in an attempt to preserve its remaining water reserves and only use them to keep itself alive
.
Prolonged failure to follow-up with watering will eventually see the yellowing and crumbling of brown coloured leaves and the ultimate death to the plant

Harvested some DESIREE potatoes 🥔 this morning

These plants still needed 3 more weeks however we prematurely removed them as they are getting too messy spreading uncontrollably over our lawn and we needed to mow our grossly overgrown buffalo lawn 😂

The 3rd of our mystery volunteer TOMATO plant has revealed itself
.
It looks like a tommy toe type cherry tomato. This plant is nestled directly under our chicken nesting box and is constantly being heavily pruned because we need to be able to access and open the nesting boxes for eggs 😂
