GOOD NEWS: 10 of our 12 tomato plants have now produced tomatoes 👏👏

BAD NEWS: Only one of those plants have ripened tomatoes on there and that is the volunteer plant. Go Volunteers 💪
.
This year we’ve mucked about our tomatoes a bit because we kept them in their seedling trays a little too long whilst working out a crop rotation policy for them
.
The good news is that with a combination of a determinate and indeterminate collection of cherry, globe and beefsteak varieties, we should get a descent harvest right up to April/early May if we have favourable weather conditions especially for our late season varieties

TIPS FOR GROWING PERFECTLY STRAIGHT CARROTS:
.
- light friable soil that has been well worked with nutrient-rich organic matter. An addition of sand in the soil helps create a well drained and fluffy soil texture
.
- avoid heavy compacted soil or soil with rocky texture
.
- thin carrots out to give them the room they need for maximum growth potential
.
- avoid transplanting carrots. It is best advised to sow them from seed so that root component can grow without limitations and hindrance
.
These are things we can do to control the shape and quality of the carrots however the reality is that deformed carrots can form at anytime that is not within our control. These factors can be environmental, the onset of diseases or nematode infestations that target the roots of the plant or as we know it, the edible part called carrot
