Lush, green and evenly coloured leaves on a TOMATO plant is a sign of a healthy tomato plant

Leaves that do not show consistent texture and colouring indicates a problem that needs to be addressed. This could be related to a nutrient deficiency, unfavourable weather conditions, a pest attack or the onset of disease (the most common)
.
Extreme care and diligence is required when troubleshooting leaf symptoms. The first signs of serious disease is on the leaf

Watch out for:
.
- yellowing and wilting leaves (ie, bacterial canker, bacterial, fusarium and verticillium wilt, iron deficiency, damage from very alkaline soil, bacterial pith)
.
- leaf mottling (mosaic virus)
.
- leaf rolling (curly top virus, pests - aphids)
.
- dark spots/linings, irregular spots, water-soaked or white spots (ie, leaf spot fungus, blight, bacterial spot, speck disease, wilt virus, leaf mold, powdery mildew, mites, magnesium deficiency)
.
- holes or defoliation in leaves and/or strange colour patterns on leaves (pests ie, hornworm, slugs, cutworm, leaf miners, whiteflies)
.
- purple coloured leaves (phosphorus deficiency)
