Because we are growing the vine in a contained space, we will be temporarily tying the stems together until the tendrils lock in permanently and exposing the flowers to bees and air

We gave five of our SILVERBEET plants a real heavy prune and fed the foliage to our chickens

They were growing quite aggressively to the point where the plants became very overcrowded and some of the stalks were touching the soil
.
We spotted chewed and punctured leaves so after the pruning it was easier to pick out cutworms, snails and a couple of green caterpillars
.
The snails were cleverly hiding on leaves in the most shaded part of the plant whilst the cutworms are also clever little creatures. They were hiding under the leaves that were touching the ground and they were also hiding under the loose subsoil around the main trunk of the plants and in the crevices of the stalks waiting to come up and feed at night
