PASSIONFRUIT should be allowed to fully mature and ripen on the vine. For the black/purple varieties it’s best to wait until the fruit is fully coloured although you can harvest them earlier (as long as they have started ripening to purple colour) but they may taste slightly on the sour side and not very sweet
.
However, if you leave them on the vine long enough, the skin will start to wrinkle and produce a great sweet/tart flavour and the fruit is often better tasting than at the smooth skinned phase of its growth. Most of these ripe fruit will fall off the vine to be collected 😍

A fresh batch of seeds will be planted this weekend. We sow carrot seeds all year round - spring, summer, autumn and winter

CARROTS however grow and taste better during cooler growing conditions. Leaving carrots in the ground after some frosty weather produces more hardened and sweeter carrots and people will often leave them covered in the soil during autumn to preserve them for harvesting at a later stage
.
We also sow them in the middle of a hot summer by growing them in a heavily shaded areas that provides respite from a scorching sun and provides cooler temperatures
.
In fact, carrots thrive in shaded protected areas. They are one of the top 10 shade loving crops in the home garden
