SUBLIME LIMES 😍😍😍 looking forward to another good harvest season

TIPS FOR GROWING HEALTHY CITRUS TREES:
.
- plenty of sunlight. Planting in a northerly position is preferred. The more sun = more warmth = happier tree
.
- fertilising twice a year - late winter and mid-Autumn with the focus on high nitrogen fertilisers
.
- containment pruning for pest control and for improved quality and quantity of fruit
.
- yearly top up of composted manure scattered around the drip line of the tree. Citrus trees are incredibly heavy feeders and can deplete the soil over time. Their shallow feeder roots sprawl far and wide looking for nutrients and compost acts as a fantastic long-lasting slow release fertiliser
.
- mulched bed. Mulch such as pine bark or pea straw for potted varieties not only assists with moisture retention but feeds the soil as it decomposes and helps breakdown heavy compacted soil thus creating well drained soil. Mulch also helps in areas where rainfall is poor or severe water restrictions apply or you are simply unable to water regularly
.
- water consistently but don’t overdo it. Citrus trees don’t require anywhere near the water say summer vegetables do. However, leaves falling off the tree is a red alert that your soil is too dry

These little fellas are still going strong. It’s been a long tiring season for them 😍
.
Here in Melbourne, summer squash varieties can start showing signs of stress from late January especially if you planted them back in August/September (like we did for all of our squash varieties)
.
Typically we find that they start their downhill journey from late-January and although they may continue to produce good quality edible crop to March it will be hard for them to produce consistently and at the same level of vigour, health and vitality they had before Xmas
.
It is however possible for succession planting of certain summer squash varieties but timing is all-important to allow the plant to grow adequately to maturity and produce consistently in the warmer weather ✅
