Nature at work - ants 🐜 farming aphids
.
Ants love herding aphids to centralised locations to protect them from predators like ladybugs and to ensure their food supply (honeydew) is constant and readily available to the ant colony
.
By ‘rounding up’ aphids close together, they ensure aphid populations continuously grow large by promoting heavy breeding and this creates concentrated deposits of honeydew that ants can use to readily feed the larvae of their colony
.
Having the aphids live close to the ant colony also allows the ants the relocate them to new locations quite easily. This is why you often hear people say “where there is an ant problem, you are guaranteed of large aphid populations”. Ants are very clever at deploying a strategy of divide and conquer to spread the empire of aphids as far and wide as they possibly can
.
Their intelligence doesn’t stop there. Have a close look at the clip and notice what one of the ants is doing - it is extracting honeydew from an aphid by rubbing it - a process known as “milking an aphid”. The ant is extracting honeydew from the abdominal area of the aphid that contains honeydew residue

Last year we had our very first harvest of ORANGES
.
From memory, we had 3 or 4 fully ripe VALENCIA ORANGES 🍊 but they were small and didn’t taste at their best
.
This year, we’ve counted 18 oranges and they look much bigger than last years harvest
.
This dwarf variety is growing in a relatively small pot size compared to the pot size it should be growing in so we are wrapped of a jump from 4 small oranges to 18 full size oranges and this should increase further next year 😍😍😍
