DIAGNOSTIC CHECK 1:

Check the state of your leaves. The developing curd receives its nutrients stored in the leaf
.
A) BORON deficiency is common in alkaline soils causing a condition known as hollow-stem affecting the quality of the curd
.
B) MANGANESE deficiency is also common in alkaline soils causing leaf mottling and discolouration
.
C) MOLYBDENUM deficiency is even more common in acidic soil causing abnormally formed leaves resulting in whiptail
.
D) POTASSIUM deficiency is serious. It regulates water and nutrient distribution across the whole plant
.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECK 2:

If your soil PH is roughly 6.5 and the leaves are looking lush and green, then the problem is not nutrient related - it is environmental
.
CAULIFLOWER is more sensitive to very cold temperatures than its other brassica relatives. Extreme cold spells or close to freezing temperatures can cause a curd to prematurely open as will heat
.
When planting CAULIFLOWER, ensure that your harvest time prediction will come before the onset of heat and warm weather. Keep the plants well watered because dry soil or drought conditions will also cause the curd to open up

This young ISA Brown chicken is attempting to camouflage herself with straw shavings so that predators don’t attempt to locate her as she prepares to lay but she’s not doing a great job of it 😂

She is a recent newbie to egg laying and a bit protective of her nest (which is understandable). Rest assured she has nothing to fear and can lay in peace 😂

This type of chicken behaviour is not always displayed but when displayed it is usually before a young chicken starts laying in earnest or chickens that have just laid and camouflage the nesting box and egg
