Gardening It’s a rebuilding year

It’s a rebuilding year for our very young fruiting CHERRY TREE. Not many cherries πŸ’ to report on this year
.
Unfortunately a large hungry adult possum decided to have a go earlier in the year. It snapped off not only the largest but the most prolific fruit-bearing branch and so half the tree was lost
.
Hopefully it puts on lots of lush green growth over the next few months and comes back bigger and πŸ’ͺ than ever next spring
.
By the way, the possum wasn’t interested in the cherries. It feasted on the leaves

When an apple tree comes out of dormancy, a spur-bearing branch will create bud clusters of between 2 and 6 blossoms but in spur-bearing varieties it’s consistently and typically between 5 to 6 blooms per cluster
.
The bloom in the middle of this cluster is called a KING FLOWER
.
A king flower is the first to open up in that cluster and grows out as the largest, plumpest and often the juiciest fruit in that cluster. The remaining lateral flowers start opening up after the king bloom has made the announcement to the plant kingdom that spring has arrived. The king flower releases a rather sweet aromatic fragrance that attracts pollinators onto the scene

Free tomatoes - A volunteer TOMATO plant loving the fertile soil around the chicken coop
.
We tend to get a lot of volunteer tomato seedlings popping up all over the place sometimes from as early as winter making them susceptible to early blight and septoria leaf spot because of either the moisture, heavy rainfall, morning dew and/or the presence of heavy humidity but this one seems to have overcome the cool early season obstacles 😍😍😍
