The worlds smallest CUCUMBER 😂
.
This cucumber was supposed to have grown much bigger. It is a long green variety
.
The reason for this deformed growth is our recent record hot days. Excessive hot days will destroy pollen and/or prevent pollinators from coming out to work. As a result this CUCUMBER has been poorly pollinated due to low insect activity in the unbearable heat whilst honeybees tend to have days off in extreme temperatures
.
CUCUMBER pollen is too heavy and sticky to be transferred by wind and is heavily dependent on insect activity

COSTOLUTO DI MARMANDE TOMATOES 🍅
.
TOMATO HARVESTING TIP:
.
Tomatoes (especially heirlooms) should never be allowed to over-ripen on the vine, but they should never be harvested too early either.
.
If you cut your tomatoes too early, the problem is that the accumulated sugars within the tomato do not have the oxygen supply that was once provided to them by the plant and they turn into chemical compounds also known as sugar decay. This will affect the flavour and quality of the tomato
.
On the other hand, temptation is to always allow tomatoes to ripen deeply to a full colour but often such a tomato is soft, mushy, cracked, won’t cut easily, won’t taste at good and will not store as well and as long in the refrigerator
.
TOMATOES should be harvested when they are not too soft or too firm to the touch and the colour change has commenced evenly around the tomato. This is because tomatoes ripen from the INSIDE —> OUT and if it’s well coloured on the outside you are guaranteed the tomato is edible
.
A lot of the heirloom varieties ripen fully without displaying complete colour on them so the trick is to harvest these tomatoes before they are fully coloured else they are past their best and will need to be eaten relatively quickly after picking
.
By picking your TOMATOES between ‘partially ripe’ to ‘fully ripe’ allows them to ripen slowly in the kitchen and store longer without the need to feel that you need to eat them quickly ✅

The three colours of a developing TIGERELLA TOMATO - green —> yellow —> orange
.
Eventually it will settle in a reddish or crimson reddish colour with yellow stripes
.
For those who have grown green zebra tomatoes, the Tigerella has the identical same patterns but instead of dark green and yellow stripes, it has red and yellow stripes
