Not long ago, our one and only beloved potted BLUEBERRY plant was heavily affected by a severe mealybug infestation followed by a disease we believe was possibly transmitted by the mealybug
.
We pruned the whole plant back to almost ground level (😒) and after repeat applications of organic fungicide, vinegar, peat moss and plant minerals look at it now. It’s never looked as good!
.
Standing at over a metre tall, it has grown aggressively well and looks like we haven’t only saved the plant but it could make up for a lost season of blueberries later this year 😍😍😍
.
DID YOU KNOW?
.
It is important to keep the soil medium in which you grow blueberries acidic for optimal growth and resistance to disease
.
Vinegar is a fantastic home ingredient you can use on potted plant species that require an acidic soil environment
.
Vinegar diluted with some water will lower the PH of your soil because it contains a liquid form of acetic acid with an average PH reading of approximately 2.2 to 2.5 depending on what it’s made from and how it’s been processed/manufactured
.
Acidifying fertilisers such as ammonium sulphate and ammonium nitrate are also powerful solutions often used commercially to acidifying soil but they are synthetic fertilisers and we do not use such fertilisers and they are not practical for the home gardener
.
However ammonium nitrate in commercial agricultural is used readily for cash crops but does have a notorious reputation for leaching excess nitrate causing widespread acidification of soil structure and environmental damage around the world

Beautiful SAGE 😍😍😍
.
GROWING TIP:
.
If you are growing SAGE plants in pots or raised garden beds in shady or part-shade areas, take note of overwatering
.
SAGE plants dislike wet roots so keep the soil well-drained and avoid heavy watering. Water that sits in the soil for a long time on a cool shady area is not ideal for SAGE
.
SAGE by evolution grows best in hot dry climates, so any plants grown in conditions inferior to this environment requires closer care and attention
.
This plant grows in a raised garden bed and although it doesn’t get a lot of sun, we’ve cut down drastically on watering and we don’t need to water as much because the soil takes longer to dry out

Enjoying some juicy big sized POMEGRANATES from my dads orchard πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹
.
Our trees won’t start fruiting in earnest till another year or two but if we get pomegranates of this size, we’ll probably not need many πŸ˜‚
